    Logistics related concepts


    In the construction of logistics channels, the concepts of logistics networks, channels, hubs, and nodes are often involved, and we analyze them one by one.
    The logistics network is a collection of links between nodes. A high-quality network contains a number of highly connected nodes that are connected by a stable transport line. The logistics network structure consists of two elements: the line that performs the logistics movement and the node that performs the logistics suspension. The network elements include economic corridors and radiation areas, trunk and branch lines, nodes and secondary nodes. Logistics network is not a simple physical space connection, but also includes the organization, operation, and information flow.
    The freight lanes consist of a cumulative stack of cargo and infrastructure. The logistics channel consists of logistics space corridors, multiple transportation axes formed by multiple lines, cargo flows that are dispersed to relatively centralized, aggregated logistics infrastructure, and stable transportation services of multiple operators. In the past, when the industry was planning a logistics network, it focused on the layout of nodes and neglected the planning of the channels. The nodes only explained the static design part of the logistics network. The concept of the lines was too simple to support the complexity and dynamic connotation of the network. The logistics channel is a dynamic description of the logistics network.
    The logistics node is a fulcrum in the network and is the connection point of the network access point and the channel. The two characteristics of any one node are the centrality, that is, the node is a highly concentrated area of logistics resources, forming a logistics resource pool, and also a highly concentrated area of logistics activities, such as a logistics park. The second is the intermediary nature, with the integrated conduction capabilities of different regions and modes of transportation on the network, and the capacity transaction is completed here. Capacity trading is a manifestation of the economy of the nodes. If the transport capacity is not smooth, it will lead to the failure of the “one kilometre” of intermodal transport, and information flow and capital flow will not be conducted here.
    The freight hub is the product of a "spoke-type" transportation strategy. Due to the extensive application of highly mechanized, automated and standardized transportation technologies such as containerization, the efficiency of cargo transportation has been greatly improved. When the transshipment efficiency is high and the transshipment cost is low, the hub appears. The emergence of the hub has intensified transport strategies from point-to-point transport to tandem transport and evolved into "spoke-type" transport. Route resources are fully utilized and the hub undertakes a large number of transshipment services. The hub is an important travel destination for freight flow from one economic center to another economic center.
    The change in the transport distance of the freight industry has led to changes in the degree of separation between the traditional urban logistics network and the economic network, and the freight hub has undertaken to bridge this separation of transaction costs. The freight hub is being separated from the traditional central city, and it is shifting towards the relative depression of a group of cities. The freight hub must include at least two different modes of transportation. Large-scale transshipments are formed here. The logistics operations of different modes of transport can be independent of each other, but they must be coordinated and mutually complementary. This has provided many regions with new opportunities supported by the logistics industry. The birth of a logistics city has made it possible for the economic development model with the logistics industry as a new engine.
